Blue Notes

Dive into the world of blue collage by choosing a song with "blue" in the title.

There are so many to choose from! From country classic “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” to Madonna’s “True Blue”, or Billie Eilish’s “BLUE.”  Or maybe you’re feeling jazzy, and want to listen to “Rhapsody in Blue,” or "Blue Monk”, or picture yourself taking in a set at the famous Blue Note in New York

Is your blue song bluesy?? Calm? Jamming? Reflect on what mood your blue song evokes, as well as any imagery that might jump out at you, either from direct lyrics or the feel of the song. Or simply lean into the color.

Steps:

  1. Choose a song with "blue" in the title and listen for mood and themes.

  2. Gather materials in various shades of blue, perhaps focusing on textures that evoke calmness or introspection.

  3. Keep an eye out for images or symbols that are often blue — water, the sky, nighttime, blueberries.

  4. If you’d like, include papers of an additional color that you may use for contrast or highlights.

  5. Work with your blue set papers, trying different compositions and layering. Capture the essence of your selected song or just go blue!
